My Experience With Music
(UPDATE IN DEVELOPMENT)
My Introduction to Music
Despite some people thinking otherwise, I've always enjoyed music. I have video games to thank for my introduction to music and my appreciation for many different genres of it. The way my brain works, I almost always have some sort of music playing in my head, whether it's something that already exists or something that I had just created in my mind in real-time. Music is something that's just been ingrained into my mind.
When I Was a Band Kid
During school, I learned how to play the viola, clarinet, and piano. I only played the viola for a year during the fourth grade, but I played the clarinet for four years (from fifth grade to my freshman year of high school). I eventually had to drop it due to the requirements of being in band becoming an inconvenience for me. During sixth grade, I learned how to play piano and still occasionally play to this day as it is my favorite instrument to play.
When I Started to Produce Music
During the eighth grade, I decided to take things a step further and started producing my own music. I always wondered how music could be made on a computer and I eventually got my answer. An old acquaintance of mine also seemed to have an interest in music. He introduced me to FL Studio, a software that could be used to make music. You could essentially use the full version for free if you gave up the ability to open project files, which is actually really bad, but something that I had adapted to for the longest time and honestly wasn't that bad for me when I was just starting out.
I was interested in this whole idea of being able to create my own songs, so I tried it out and made my first song. The song was garbage. The song had pieces that could absolutely be reworked into a really good song, but it was overall pretty bad. It wasn't just my first song either, there are a good amount of really old songs I made years ago that suffered from the same issues. At some point, I drifted from music due to music requiring a lot of work to create, even more so than when I first started out.
Getting Better at Music Production
While I did temporarily drift away from producing music, I eventually came back and put in the work to learn more about it. Nowadays, I get the urge to create music or mess around with FL Studio pretty often, so that could've been what brought me back. In those years, I've made a lot of music, many of which I can't officially upload without reworking. I mainly made music for myself and sometimes other people, taking any and all criticism I had received into account.
My Music Production Skills Now
I eventually got to a point where I decided that I was finally ready to start selling my music and have been doing so since then. As of now, I am a professional music producer with about four and a half years of experience.
